More details
Autumn weather changes quickly: mornings can be chilly and afternoons mild. That is why children are dressed in layers that are easy to add or remove.
At 5 °C a toddler can wear long-sleeve top, trousers, fleece, light jacket, bobble hat, mittens, winter boots. For 10 °C: long-sleeve top, trousers, cardigan, light jacket, bobble hat, trainers. At 15 °C a toddler can wear long-sleeve top, trousers, cardigan, light jacket, thin hat, trainers. For autumn rain, add: raincoat, wellies. If it is windy, bring: scarf.
If your child gets sweaty, change into dry clothes as soon as you are somewhere warm. Dress for the feels-like temperature: wind and humidity make the air feel colder. Indoors and in the car, remove the outer layer so your child does not overheat. Take a spare layer: the weather and your plans can change. Several thin layers work better than one thick piece: they are easier to take off indoors or on the bus.
Watch how your child feels and change layers while you are out. This is a guide, not medical advice.
