More details

Toddlers move a lot, so dress them roughly like yourself and take one layer off during active play. Here are guides for different temperatures.

For 20°F, choose bodysuit, pants, fleece, puffer jacket, snow pants, winter hat, mittens, winter boots, scarf. At 60°F: long-sleeve top, pants, cardigan, light jacket, thin hat, sneakers. For 90°F, choose t-shirt, shorts.

At the playground, pick clothes your child can take off and put on easily. Pack spare mittens or gloves: they get wet fast in snow and puddles. Pack a spare layer: the weather and your plans can change. If your child gets sweaty, change into dry clothes as soon as you are somewhere warm. Several thin layers work better than one thick piece: they are easier to take off indoors or in the car. Indoors and in the car, remove the outer layer so your child does not overheat.

Check the back of the neck: warm, dry skin is a good sign. This is a guide, not medical advice.
