More details
A guide for 90°F: a toddler (1–3 years) can wear t-shirt, shorts. It assumes a normal walk with no rain and no strong wind. For a baby under three months: bodysuit, sun hat. For a child under one: bodysuit, sun hat. Kids aged 3–6 move more, so this is enough: t-shirt, shorts.
If it drops to 80°F, add: sun hat, sunglasses. If it rains, put on: raincoat, rain boots. In bright sun, add: sun hat, sunglasses. Apply kids’ sunscreen to exposed skin.
A hat with a wide brim shades the face, ears and neck from direct sun. Offer water often during a walk, even if your child does not ask for it. Sandals or breathable shoes are more comfortable than closed sneakers on hot days. Plan walks for the morning or evening and stay in the shade around midday. After a walk, wash off sweat and sunscreen and change into dry clothes.
Check the back of the neck: warm, dry skin means the layers are right. This is a guide, not medical advice.
